The Ladybells are a reliable but underused perennial. We always have lots of seedlings around and they do keep throwing up flower spikes

31st July

At the top we have Astrantia or the Masterwort. It's a lovely plant with healthy foliage. This is the red flowering variety. The white one is quite desirable too.

31st July 00

Here is a picture of the Aconitum or monkshood. It is a poisonous plant so the deer leave it alone. This is the early flowering variety. The late form flowers in August/september
This is the Hypericum calycicum...It spreads all over the ground and has these gorgeous flowers. I always remember these flowers from my childhood in England. They do equally well here

July 31st 00

Daylilies can give you color all through August. Choose late blooming varieties like August Flame and Autumn minaret
The native Lizard's Tail...interesting plant for wet area's It does seem to spread easily.

29th July 00

Stoke's Aster- has the most interesting flowers. They are easy to grow in well drained area's. We have several on our cafe's Terrace
Crocosmia Lucifer. Lovely iris like foliage and freesia like red flowers.  A winning combination. We have had this clump for more than 5 years..it's a good perennial too!
Helianthus 'Loddon Gold'  I always like these sunflowers. They are a good perennial and can quickly fill up a bed
Here's a cooling patio fountain.
The hand cast bronze fish is expensive. However, we have a lot of other ideas that don't stretch the budget so much.

Saturday 22nd July

The lovely blue globe thistle (Echinops) The blue balls seem to be floating in the garden. This plant is wonderful for butterflies and bees
A small shasta daisy. It's only about a foot tall
Our trumpet vines are starting to bloom right now. It's amazing how they attract the humming birds

Saturday 22nd July

The lady's Mantle after a shower is a sight to behold. This plant is the bank bone of a lot of English style gardens. It is easy to grow
The hibiscus syriacus or Rose of Sharon will be in flower very soon, Bluebird on the left is a popular variety but newer ones like the red centered one have great flowers too
Here is a picture of my shade garden at home. You see lots of hosta, ferns, houytonia, master wort and the purple blue flowers of Aconitum

The wood Hydrangea 'Annabelle' a gem for any woodland garden. It flowers every year at this time without fail

14th July 00

Malva fastigata at its best at the moment. This perennial seeds profusely and will fill a flower bed very quickly. We have our cafe terrace covered nicely at the moment.
The japanese Clethra has been a little slow to establish at the Graden center But now it is one of my favorite flowering shrubs.
The butterfly bushes are in flower now. They flower the rest of the summer. They look great next to contrasting colors like the bright yellow Indian Summer

14th July

Echinacea or Cone flowers in flower. These are easy to grow perennials that spread nicely in your garden. Available in pin/purple and white forms 13th July.
Frisia Locust and Tamarix. a strange but wonderful combination. The tamarix can be a bit of a nuisance in warmer and drier conditions

Hosta 'Sum & Substance.' One of the biggest hosta available. We have some wonderful ones available at the Garden center

Our cafe wall rack is full of perennials  and makes a great display well into fall. The plants go back into the garden by the end of October. This year we have a golden hops climbing up the back trellis!
Nepeta's are such useful plants. The deer leave them well alone and they flower all summer long. They are incredibly drought resistant.
Heliopsis or false sun flower. These gems flower for many weeks. They are healthy easy to grow perennials  that need to be given a little room.

Strange foliage for your shade garden. Foliage can sometimes be more colorful than flowers. This is particularly true in the shade garden
Asclepias tuberosa.....or the butterfly weed. A native perennial with electrifying orange colors. It is doing very well on our dry sunny bank
