Our larger pond at
Greystone gardens. The water clears very quickly as soon as the cold
weather arrives. So does the heron to catch the fish!

covered with a light frost. It really accentuates its lovely
fountain shape.

| The seed heads of the
clematis vines can be really attractive. We prune some varieties in
the spring but remove any growth that the snow might
damage now.

The barberry 'Rosy Glow'
The leaves are traced with a lovely frosting. Some barberries have
an excellent berry hold that the birds make good use of. The leaf
color in fall can be an amazing show. |
| Great combinations at work.
The yellow is provided by Cripp's Gold Chamaecyparis and the red by
the stunning fall color of the viburnum Winterthur. The latter is
proving to be hardier than first suggested.

A similar color combination
using Itea 'Henry's Garnet' and the Amsonia Hubrechii. It has taken
a little time to develop color but it is well worth it. |
| Roses can flower a long
time into fall. Here is the David Austin Rose 'Othello' with a light
frosting.

The signs of Winter design
are all around my gardens . Winter lasts 6 months of the year in
terms of landscape. I never loose an opportunity to plant something
that excels in this season. The Winterberries are a great example

| The bark of the River birch
'Heritage' is a wonderful addition to my home garden. Beautifully
exfoliating salmon colored bark really provides a warming glow.
