and then we have the stunning purple foliage.

| Some
of the woodland phlox are are great ground covers. Some are
amazingly fragrant too. Look for names like "Clouds of
Perfume", "Fuller's White". They are relatively
trouble free early woodland flowers.

Joy! Oh
Joy! Flowers on the Chinese wisteria and in record time too.
This specimen started flowering after three years. With careful
pruning there is no reason it won't continue every year for a
lifetime. We will prune it in about two weeks time. It's on the
entrance to our cafe.
11th May 01 |
| Our
woodland walk is ablaze with color at the moment. All kinds of

most fragrant viburnums. The Korean spice, Burkwood or Judd
varieties all have the most exquisite odor.

| A
carpet of forget me nots is really a remarkable sight. These little

best.

The
glorious "Snowfountains" Cherry in flower in front
of our cafe. The small tree is very hardy and reliable. It has a
very pretty weeping shape and very suitable for small gardens. Less
prone to disease than the common pink varieties.

Ice Follies
Daffodils are so easy to grow. The deer will not eat them. If they
are in good soil they will increase in numbers every year.
Always let the foliage die down naturally.
25th April 01 |
| This
is something special it is the variegated Brunnera. The lowers
remind me of forget - me nots . But what amazing foliage. Youy can
find these beauties on our woodland walk.

This is a more

texture to it. Its light green flowers come up very early.
25th April 01 |

fragrant.

Our woodland
area is bursting full of color. All the bulbs seem to have exploded
over the last few days.
19th April 01 |
| This
is the Daphne mezureum. It's a little late in flowering this year.
It tends to be an upright shrub and can be a little short lived.
This one is doing very well on our cafe Terrace.

We have a terrific
selection of hosta. We have always got a great selection of new and
unusual varieties
13th April 01 |
| Some flowers
just can wait. Here my son Anatoli is struggling to show off the
Japanese Butterburr. A big aggressive foliage plant with a lovely
variegation in the leaves. However way before the leaves appear it
sends up the flower heads and here is one of them.

The little Siberian squill
spread all over our woodland garden. Forget tulips and other
vulnerable bulbs that get eaten by the animals , these are
brilliant.
13th April 01 |
| I love these Iris
reticulata. Every time we have transplanted a shrub we seem to have spread
them around the garden center. The are popping up in all kinds of
places. |
 |
 |
We have lots of great
evergreens for your garden. It's a good idea to fill your garden
with a range of plant material and evergreens are particularly
important because the are so cheery in the long winter months
