The theme of this years show is
"The Legends of Ireland"
I was suitably impressed with the
quality of the plants and the design. Unfortunately, my camera ran low
on batteries and I had to be a little conservative with my shooting!
The day starts out early ...Here
Larry the producer gets the equipment ready. We try and get to the show
by 7am so we have plenty of time to shot the wide shots before the
crowds rush in,
Simple plantings really can be
special. Here some white Irish daffodils poke through the floor of a
woodland garden. The large tree trunks are in fact painted canvas.
Tradition Irish patterns were
found in all kinds of plantings and decorations.
I must admit I absolutely adore
simple combinations. Here the powder blue of the hosta is nicely
contrasted with the chartreuse green of the ground cover.
What Irish garden wouldn't be
complete without some garden fairies?
My favorite exhibit and best in
show. The staddle stones look like giant fossilized toadstones. All in
keeping with the lost hermitage feel.
The prize given to the above
display. The multiflora rose cost over $1500 to force...It just shows
what it takes to reach the winning standard!
This display was very
interesting in that it was made entirely of commonly available plants.
The design was what counted!
There is always plenty of good
advice available at the show. Here is one poster from the people at Penn
State.
